Traditional Reiki

What is Reiki? In a post-pandemic, politically chaotic world, Reiki is a gentle, effective holistic energy healing method that you can use, hands-on, to treat yourself and others. As you become more experienced with its practice, you can also learn to send Reiki's healing energy to individuals, to families, to communities, to troubling situations at home in this country or in other countries, even to the world itself.

How can Reiki help? You can use your Reiki-charged hands to quiet your mind, to calm your racing heart, to alleviate stress, to relieve pain, and to accelerate any natural healing process. You can also use the same hands-on method to treat others -- a friend with a headache, a child with a bee sting, an athlete with a pulled hamstring...

Traditional Reiki is usually taught here in the United States in three levels: Level I for Basic training, Level II for advanced techniques, and Level III for instructor training. Practicing Reiki provides experiential learning, providing a sound foundation for absorbing advanced techniques and for recognizing Reiki practice as a spiritual path for those who commit to live by its principles.

Here you can learn more about traditional Usui Reiki, a form of healing bodywork, energy medicine, and spiritual pathwork now practiced worldwide. You can use the links below to get basic information, learn about Reiki's history, or find out more about traditional Reiki classes and Reikishares. There is even a description of a simple method for sending healing to planet earth.

This website is maintained by Amy Rowland, author of The Complete Book of Traditional Reiki, a revised and updated edition of Traditional Reiki for Our Times, published to serve as a reference book on traditional Reiki techniques for level I practitioners and translated into five languages for use as a teaching manual worldwide. The revised edition brings the history of Reiki up to date, with a beautiful and inspired translation by Rev. Hyakuten Inamoto of the Usui Memorial in Tokyo, Japan. Look for a review on the book page for The Complete Book of Traditional Reiki.

Amy Rowland's other books about Reiki include Reiki for the Heart and Soul: The Reiki Principles as Spiritual Pathwork, published in 2008 by Inner Traditions. This book is intended to offer inspiration and help to Reiki practitioners seeking to live their lives with serenity, gratitude, and joy, during difficult times. Intuitive Reiki For Our Times, published in 2006, provides useful information and inspiring stories to Reiki practitioners who seek to use their Reiki-enhanced intuitive abilities in their healing practice. These books are available in bookstores and online from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and independent bookstores in the U.S. and abroad.

Amy Rowland, M.A., ABMP, is a traditional Usui Reiki Master. She teaches traditional Western Reiki (Usui Shiki Reiki Ryoho), and continuing education workshops for practitioners on Reiki and intuition and the Reiki principles. She also writes about Reiki for print and online publications.
