Reiki & Intuition Workshops

The Reiki & Intuition Workshop will not teach you how to do Reiki hands-on or distant healing. That is the focus of Reiki I and II classes, which are taught by many wonderful, certified, experienced Reiki teachers worldwide.

The Reiki & Intuition Workshop is a more unusual -- perhaps even unique -- course offering: a "continuing education" class for Reiki practitioners of all levels and lineages who wish to become better able to recognize and honor intuitive guidance at the bodywork table and in daily life.

Reiki and intuition are a natural pairing: intuition guided Hawayo Takata to Reiki. She taught some of her Reiki Master students techniques that use intuition, and in Japan, practitioners have been taught reiji-ho, intuitive hand placement, for generations.

If you are already certified as a Reiki practitioner, the Reiki & Intuition Workshop will offer you a chance to learn more about the place of intuition in Reiki history and in your own path to Reiki.

The two-and-a-half day class begins with an evening introduction to intuition as a tool for spiritual pathwork. Some participants will share stories of receiving and honoring guidance to learn Reiki. Others will acknowledge resisting and ignoring such guidance out of self-doubt or fear. This opens the way to discuss the "mixed messages" so many of us have received regarding the value of intuition from our friends and families, our religions, our culture. A guided visualization helps participants to rediscover "the hidden history of the soul," those moments of spiritual guidance that we have forgotten or deliberately suppressed. This exercise allows us to begin to recall and reclaim our natural intuitive abilities. We end with a prayer or meditation on gratitude, celebrating the gifts of Spirit.

The following day continues our exploration of intuition's place in our culture and in our lives. We confront the myriad self-doubts and fears that can stand in our way. We begin to explore how the spiritual healing that Reiki offers us gently, gradually transforms our world-view from the "reality" of limitation and lack to the reality of limitless healing and loving support. With this awareness, in silent meditation, we ask Spirit to help us to become more open to intuition, which connects us to our highest wisdom.

To foster this stronger conscious connection to Spirit, practitioners are invited to receive additional attunements, offered in the traditional Japanese style. Then the focus of the workshop shifts to Reiki practice at the bodywork table and in distant healing. How does Reiki foster and enhance our intuitive ability? How does Reiki protect us and our clients from picking up anything negative? How does Reiki-enhanced intuition assist us in bringing healing to our clients? These and many other questions are considered as we work at the tables and in our healing circle. This day offers intense practice with traditional Western Reiki techniques and instruction in reiji-ho, the Japanese Reiki technique of intuitive hand placement.

The final day of the Reiki & Intuition Workshop offers participants a chance to practice using Reiki to give a variety of intuitive readings: general, question-based, past life, photo, inanimate object, and so on. Working with a partner, participants are taught a method adapted by permission from one used by Linda Schiller Hanna, an intuitive reader and teacher of psychic development for the A.R.E. (Association for Research & Enlightenment) founded by Edgar Cayce. These exercises reinforce the connection between Reiki and intuition and the knowledge that we are One in Spirit.

Participants in the Reiki & Intuition Workshop will receive a manual, a notebook for recording intuitive Reiki experiences, and a copy of Intuitive Reiki For Our Times, published by Inner Traditions in July 2006. In addition, participants receive a certificate acknowledging workshop attendance for the purpose of continuing education.

The Reiki & Intuition Workshop is taught by Amy Rowland, the author of Intuitive Reiki For Our Times and Traditional Reiki For Our Times. She has been teaching Reiki since 1994 and practicing Reiki since 1987, when she learned Reiki I and II from Takata-trained clairvoyant Reiki Master Beth Gray. In addition to her Reiki training, Amy has taken classes in intuitive development with Linda Schiller Hanna and Mary Roach (through A.R.E.) and Marianne Rivera; she has studied the written work of other intuitive readers, in particular Echo Bodine and Sonia Choquette, with interest and appreciation. According to Edgar Cayce, "Intuitive development is spiritual development," so Amy looks forward to lifelong learning and pathwork.
